Another salon of celebs have donated their time this year for Children in Need and agreed to enroll at the Celebrity Scissorhands Academy.
Brandon is one of Britain’s biggest DJ personalities. His uplifting party house music behind the decks both on Kiss FM and his yearly Ibiza trip has established Brandon as an essential part of the legacy of the island. He’s equally well known for causing havoc on the other side of the turntables, getting up to hi-jinks DJ-ing across the world.
Brandon will take no prisoners in his Academy experience and believes that the client isn’t always right and says that when it comes to difficult clients, he will chastise them! He reckons his downfall will be the long hours and early starts. Before Brandon turned to DJ-ing, he was a recruitment consultant and a sales assistant in Burton, Topman and his aunty’s greengrocers.
Hair fact: Brandon admits to having had some bad hair days: I have had a few dodgy hairstyles in my time. I look forward to inflicting some on others!
Carley is best known for her role as Steph Dean in Hollyoaks, although she has previous experience in theatre. She’s been dancing since she was three and had plenty of stage experience, but it wasn’t until her mum entered her for a talent contest and won that her career started. She has said that she’s looking forward to working in the academy but is worried because she has a fear of dirty hair.
R&B star Javine began her musical career at 18 playing Nala in The Lion King in London’s West End before auditioning for Popstars: The Rivals in 2004. Although she narrowly missed out on being included in the line-up of Girls Aloud, she has gone on to have a successful solo career, releasing four Top 20 singles to date and representing Great Britain in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest.
Since then Javine has starred in the Boney M musical, ‘Daddy Cool’ alongside So Solid’s MC Harvey. Javine comments: I’m very excited to do the show as I have always been interested in the beauty industry. I’m dreading doing manicures and pedicures, but can’t wait to wax a few men’s backs! Now I’m about to become a mother, a charity like Children in Need has become more prominent in my life
.
Javine says her hair is very important to her, so much so that she would rather go out with no make-up than be seen with bad hair!
After his discovery on Gene Simmons’ Rock School, it didn’t take long for Lil’ Chris to be snatched up by record companies and the 17-year-old is now taking the charts by storm! Since then he has released three albums, Checkin’ It Out, Gettin’ Enough??, and Figure It Out, and had two smash UK tours.
Lil’Chris says he is looking forward to taking on all the beauty treatments that the Academy will offer, but would rather wax a lady’s hairy leg over a man’s hairy back and says if he makes a mistake whilst cutting hair he will laugh and try to blag it and make the front look good and not worry about the back.
‘It girl’ and socialite extraordinaire, Tamara is now best known for being a columnist for Hello!, OK! and Esquire magazines among others. She is also a regular presenter for MTV and VH-1, and reports for shows like This Morning and Watchdog.
Of Celebrity Scissorhands, Tamara gushes: Having always been a hair kind of girl, it was about time to put the shoe on the other foot. I’m really looking forward to my six‐day working week!
Tamara says: Although I’ve had some interesting hairdos, the ‘pineapple’ springs to mind mostly. I’ve always had big crazy hair and love the big 60s hair… big, messy bed hair. I’ve never had my hair dried dead straight.
Warwick’s acting career took off when he got the role of Wicket the Ewok in the Star Wars classic, Return of the Jedi. He has since gone on to star in Labyrinth alongside David Bowie, as well as Willow, Leprechaun, Star Wars - Episode 1, and all six Harry Potter films. Most recently, he has appeared in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
When he was 17, Warwick had a wavy mane of hair — or that’s what he wanted. Instead he ended up with a tight perm. Nightmare!
Warwick is keeping his own blog on his time in the Academy and you can read it on his official site.
I am thrilled to have been asked to become an apprentice in Celebrity Scissorhands. There are simply two reasons why I said yes to the invitation. Firstly, I have always wanted to do more to help Children In Need. And secondly, I hope to inspire viewers of the show.
Too many people set mental limits to their achievements in life. I am a firm believer in ‘having a go’. I don’t let my size or my mind stop me from succeeding. If, after watching Celebrity Scissorhands just one viewer is inspired enough to try something they’ve always wanted to do, then I’ll be happy. I am also looking forward to acquiring new skills. In the acting game, one never knows when a back-up plan will be needed. Anyone for a ‘short’ back and sides?
Actor Ben Nicholas is best known for his role as Scott ‘Stingray’ Timmins in Aussie soap Neighbours. One of Ramsay Street’s favourite residents for over three years, Ben has moved to the UK and hopes to take the West End by storm.
Ben has admitted that he straightens his hair every day with straighteners that his mum bought him, because she got fed up of me looking so scruffy.
Although Ben claims to be looking forward to his Academy experience, he has expressed concern at having to assist in some of the more ‘intimate’ beauty treatments.
Comedian Ninia Benjamin was thrust into the spotlight as one-third of BBC Three’s ‘3 Non-Blondes’ and is a regular headliner at the UK’s top comedy clubs. She has gone on to be a presenter including hosting Gory Greek Gods, been a guest on Big Brother’s Big Mouth and appearing in BBC 3’s Twisted Tales. About Celebrity Scissorhands, Ninia says: I’m looking forward to learning all about hair and make up. Corr, what woman wouldn’t want to?
Despite her interest in learning a new trade, Ninia doesn’t have much experience as she didn’t have her hair cut in a salon until she was 26 years old!
Aled Haydn Jones is best known for working on BBC Radio 1’s Chris Moyles’ Breakfast Show. When not producing the show, he acts as its regular roving reporter covering the goings-on in Big Brother, earning him the nickname ‘BB Aled’.
Aled’s achievements include being a former Male Rear of the Year, regular appearances as a judge on the S4C Welsh language talent show Waw Ffactor and he has also appeared on Newsnight, Big Brother’s Little Brother, as a guest presenter on Top Of The Pops and, famously, as an extra in hit American drama 24. Of Celebrity Scissorhands, Aled says: As the reality TV fan on the Chris Moyles show I’m looking forward to actually getting to be in one! I just hope to do well and raise lots of money for Children in Need.
Previously for charity, in July 2006, Aled, who had only learned to a few months before, swam a mile to raise nearly £69,000 for Sport Relief.
Celebrity Scissorhands and all the people who have given their time to make it happen have done so to raise money for Children in Need.
