Over the weeks I was managing the Celebrity Scissorhands salon, I somehow managed to find the time to write a few blogs which I’ve posted here. These are also available on my Myspace page along with all my other blogs.
It was a real riot in the academy yesterday, absolutely bonkers — Steve did his best hair cut ever in the academy, a bit of true genius. However he then followed it up with the worst hair cut he has ever done… he went from zero to hero and back again!
All the celebrities are starting to get their confidence and doing more creative cuts, Warwick did his first yesterday; they’re all stepping up now, beginning to think outside the box and feeling liberated because of it.
Remember to do your bit for Pudsey, like Eastleigh College, where on the 14th of November you’ll be able to take part in their version of Scissorhands, with all the money raised going to Children in Need!
Yesterday was absolute chaos; a hectic day with loads of clients in, and on top of that, a dress rehearsal to make sure we’re ready for the show. It was one of the busiest days we’ve had in the academy, if not the busiest day!
Today is the final day, with the big show tonight… I’m excited but anxious, its going to be a mental day!
On Friday I’ll post a recap of everything that has happened over the series and my thoughts on how the celebrities have faired and improved. Until then keep your figures crossed for us all, and keep doing all you can for Children in Need.
The final morning in the academy was quite emotional — I had a few tears which led some of the others to cry; as with last year Celebrity Scissorhands has been an incredible rollercoaster.
And last night couldn’t have gone better, the judges were absolutely blown away and gave the most amazing feedback. So we finished with a bang!
The crucial differences between this year and last year was that the celebs had no training, and were deliberately thrown in at the deep-end. This hopefully created some great telly, but was also to illustrate the difficulty and dedication that’s needed for coming up with great cuts and meant that you got to see their development from start to finish. The results, the way the students handled the three weeks, and most of all, their progression impressed me incredibly.
We also had the Cut Off this year, which created a real target for everyone to work towards and I think really pushed us to come up with our best.
Being the only hairdresser this year, whereas last year I had the help of Ben, Stephen, Elaine and Janet, made it so much harder for me. But it also meant that the relationships I built with the celebs were much stronger, and really made a difference. Then, for them to get the feedback they did from my own peers in the industry, Anthony Mascolo, Beverley C, Errol Douglas, Richard Ward, Sacha Mascolo and Toni Mascolo, was incredibly overwhelming.
Having Steve as assistant manager was a nightmare, sometimes he was brilliant and others he was impossible to deal with. Some of the cuts he did where excellent and as you’ll see below some were the worst. As I said in one my early blogs, it, and he could be both heaven and hell. But I’ll still miss him xXx.
This one is really tricky as I can’t pin-point just one; but Steve did a real corker, as did Aled and Ninia. They all produced corkers in terms of creativity, apart from Javine and Carley who had a real understanding of the more commercial cuts.
Definitely Steve — leaving the bald V at the back of the poor woman’s head is not a good example to be setting.
Ninia was great, I think she progressed and learnt the most during her time in the academy, and deservedly the judges awarded her the winner of Celebrity Scissorhands 2007.
So this year we’ve had more of Steve, we’ve raised even more money for Children in Need and I’ve had an absolute blast.
Thanks to all of you who have commented, messaged, or emailed me with your thoughts on the show, the brave people who came into the academy, and the celebrities themselves. Now I’ve started this diary thing I’m going to keep going with it and try and get one up once a week.
Please watch Terry & Fern on tonight, and do everything you can for Children in Need. With any luck I’ll see you at the Scissorhands Academy next year!
